On a Gravel Road
a factory in the distance – grim (but at least) half-working –
meaning that there’s food on the tables – that
in front
of the bungalows there’s
some (old) laundry
flapping itself dry:
a concrete and stone wall (cracking dissolving)
running along the road
and here – in the middle of this scene –
walks/wanders a little girl,
dirty-blonde hair and her
(clean) hand-me-down clothes
although she is yet very young, and so,
should be,
almost by right,
described as “cute” – she cannot be-
- it has something to do with her face – not the actual looks – but
the expression she forever wears
(because cutting through this townscape is what is
underground – not only the anthracite (that crushing of the
millennia) but also the half-of-the-tree that’s underground (not simply
the roots – but the half-of-that-little-girl – black as coal and underground and
the half of her costume that’s underground – the giraffe’s face
painted on it
-and the half of her clutching hand – the clutching to not let go, the
clutching to
not)
And then – so: this little girl: Will you ask her? (Do you have the guts to ask her?)
-I mean you (or maybe what’s buried of you) but will you ask her:
“Little girl, where are you going?”
(Dig yourself up)
